Sarcoidosis is an incurable condition in which inflammatory cells form in clusters in the brain, central nervous system, lungs, and other organs.
Neurosarcoidosis is a chronic disease that has no cure and can significantly reduce one's overall quality of life.
Duffy, on the other hand, is able to manage her discomfort using a variety of medications.
To battle the consequences of the condition, the 60-year-old takes steroids, chemotherapy, morphine, and pain patches.
Duffy awoke with pain equivalent to "an electric eel swimming up the spinal column" the day after the Emmy Awards in 1995.
Her doctor discovered an incurable "mostaccioli-sized" lesion around her brain stem and spinal cord, which was crushing her nerves.
