Lauren Bernett JMU Death Cause And Obituary


James Madison University (JMU) announced the sudden demise of their softball player, Lauren Bernett, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022; however, the school did not share the death cause or circumstances.

JMU President Jonatha Alger and Athletic Director Jeff Bourne said in a joint statement, "Our hearts are aching, hearing the heartbreaking news of the loss of one of our student-athletes."

Odicci Alexander, the team's leader, shared a photo of herself shaking hand with Bernett, her batterymate, during the World Series. She tweeted "Love you LB," with a breaking-heart sad emoji.

The young athlete had been named the Colonial Athletic Association's player of the week on Monday. In a weekend sweep of Drexel, the conference recorded a .788 batting average, with seven RBI and four runs.

College Softball Player Lauren Bernett JMU Dies At 20

The daughter of Scott Bernett and Kim Bernett, Lauren Bernett, a softball player of JMU, passed away at the age of 20. It was heartbreaking news that the young player lost her life at such a young age.

Her mother also played softball at Washington and Jefferson College, as per the reports. Lauren is survived by her mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters.

Moreover, she was also a member of the National Honor Society. The softball player was also associated with playing 18u since her first year.Β 

As a sophomore catcher from McDonald, Pennsylvania, Bernett started 43 of 45 games for James Madison's College World Series-winning team back in 2021.

The Dukes' doubleheader against Longwood, which was set for Wednesday, has been canceled, the team stated in a tweet on Tuesday, noting that the future schedule alterations have yet to be determined.

What Happened To Lauren Bernett

The cause of the sudden demise of JMU softball player Lauren Bernett is yet to be revealed. In the announcement made by the college, the death cause or any other details were, however, not mentioned.

According to JMU's website, Lauren was a McDonald, Pennsylvania native, about 18 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, and had plans to be a biology major with a minor in Pre-Vet.

The announcement of her sudden death came a day after the Colonial Athletic Association named her Player of the Week. Many of her teammates shared their tributes to the tragic news on social media.

Kayla Boseman wrote in a statement that Bernett will always be remembered, while Emily Phillips added that she's always going to miss her more than anything. Moreover, Meredith Wells called Lauren "a light to so many."
