The 20-year-old Karnes was a former Tiger quarterback. Nonetheless, he was a brother of HHS Class of 2022 member Presli Karnes.
The obituary on Facebook read, "We are saddened to report the death of Chance Karnes, a 2020 graduate of Herring High School. He was killed in an auto accident while returning from a wedding."

Car Accident Linked To Chance Karnes Cause Of Death
As Herrin Independent reported on Facebook, Chance Karnes' cause of death in a car accident. He was returning from a wedding when the tragedy occurred.
Karnes' friend Gina McCarthy wrote, "It is so unfair. I don't understand life, and I don't think I ever will. I'll cherish all of our memories and laughs for the rest of my life. Rest easy. I'll miss you forever."
A former football coach a Herrin High School, Dwayne Summers, expresses his pain on this tragic news and writes, "I have always thought of you as the son I never had. I will always remember the good times and never forget you, Chance Karnes! Rest in peace my son."
