David declared in February 2022 that he would run for Senate in the 2022 federal election, representing the ACT. The David Pocock party was officially registered with the Australian Electoral Commission on March 18, 2022.

David held an interview with TV New Zealand titled 'From Ruck to the Senate' on May 15, 2022, in which he stated his reasons for standing for the Australian Senate as an independent candidate.

Pocock stated that he aims to provide a fresh viewpoint and a distinct voice to Australian politics when faith in Australian politics is at an all-time low.

One of Pocock's issues that should be addressed is government corruption and political advertising rules. Pocock claims that you may lie and say whatever you want in Australia with no consequences.
