Who Is Katherine Massey From Buffalo Shooting?
According to the Buffalo News, Katherine Massey was one of the casualties, who said a family member verified her death.
Massey, 72, was a civil rights and education advocate who did everything to support Buffalo's Black community, as per Betty Jean Grant, a former Erie County legislator.
Last year, Kat Massey wrote a letter to the Buffalo News calling for stronger gun safety laws. Yesterday, she was gunned down while grocery shopping. Another senseless loss to our national gun violence epidemic. When will enough finally be enough?
— Andrew Weinstein
Massey was associated with Grant's "We are Women Warrior" group. According to Betty Jean, She, Massey, and Eva Doyle were the "three musketeers" of the group.
Katherine Massey was unapologetically committed to ensuring that the black community was not forgotten. Also, she wrote a letter year ago in support of increased federal regulation of weaponry, in which she discussed both urban street violence and mass massacres.
In the letter, Massey mentioned the current measure primarily motivated by mass shootings- universal background checks and assault weapons bans that largely exclude the origins of the city's gun problems. She also stated the principal perpetrators are illegal handguns obtained through out-of-state gun trafficking.
