According to JMU's website, the young athlete had plans to be a biology major with a minor in Pre-Vet. She was a native of McDonald, Pennsylvania, about 18 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.

JMu Softball player Lauren Bernett passed away at 20, accompanied by her family. She is survived by her parents, Kim Bernett and Scott Bernett, with two brothers and two sisters.
Lauren was a member of the National Honor Society and was further associated with playing 18u since her first year.

As a sophomore catcher, Lauren started 43 out of 45 games for James Madison's College World Series-winning team back in 2021.
Prior to JMU, Lauren was a four-year varsity letter winner. She was the TCS East Coast Summer Nationals Runner-Up in 2018 and played travel ball for Team Pennsylvania Fastpitch.
As a freshman in JMU, Lauren went 2-for-4 with one RBI in the Columbia Super Regional Finals. She recorded three home runs, one at the Knoxville Regional in the championships game against Liberty.

Lauren Bernett Siblings
As per the records, Lauren Bernett grew up with her four siblings. She is among the five children of her parents. Lauren was raised alongside her two brothers and two sisters.
JMU President Jonatha Alger and Athletic Director Jeff Bourne stated in a joint statement, "Our hearts are aching with the devastating news of the loss of one of our student-athletes."

The team's leader Odicci Alexander also shared a loving photo of herself shaking hand with Lauren, her batterymate, during the World Series and tweeted "Love you LB," with a breaking-heart emoji.
Many of her teammates also shared their tributes to the sudden death of the softball player on social media. Kayla Boseman stated, "Bernett will always be remembered," while Emily Phillips added that she will miss her more than anything.
