Auston Matthews, Toronto Maple Leafs forward is not playing tonight against the New York Islanders, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. 

He sustained a minor injury in Saturday's 5-4 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators. Matthews is two goals away from his first career 60-goal season with seven games left in the season.

Keefe also stated that John Tavares will be promoted to the top line to replace Matthews.

"Auston has a slight injury," Keefe stated during his pre-game conference. "At this point, it will be on a day-by-day basis. It's genuinely out of a sense of foreboding. Give him the day off and re-evaluate him from there."

According to TSN, Matthews is now in the midst of a great season in which he has 58 goals and 102 points in 70 games. 

The Maple Leafs are now second in the Atlantic Division, four points ahead of the third-place Tampa Bay Lightning and ten points back of the first-place Florida Panthers.

Fans are apprehensive about whether the team will be able to overcome the Islanders without Auston Matthews. The Leafs will be headed by William Nylander and Mitch Marner tonight.

The Islanders were eliminated from playoff contention after setting franchise records for victories and points in the regular season.

Auston Matthews, a forward for Maple Leaf is categorized as day-to-day after he suffered a minor injury in the previous match. 

According to the head coach, despite the fact that the injury is minor, he was advised to rest with a feeling of foreboding. This season, Matthews has 58 goals and 44 assists.

The Leafs are being cautious with their top talent because they are already guaranteed a playoff place and are playing their second game on consecutive nights.

Along with Matthews, Kyle Clifford will be absent against the Islanders, while Nick Abruzzese and Wayne Simmonds will return to the lineup after serving as healthy scratches on Saturday.

Auston Matthews is available on Wikipedia as an alternative captain for Toronto Maple Leaf. The 23 years of ice-hockey player was born to his parents, Brian and Ema in San Roman, California. 

His father is originally from California, but his mother is from Hermosillo, Mexico. When Auston was two months old, his family relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, and he began attending Phoenix Coyotes games at the age of two.

Matthews was a hockey and baseball player as a youth. Baseball, according to his father, was his favorite sport. Auston's hand-eye coordination made him an exceptional hitter.
