Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland finished second after a stunning comeback on the final day of The Master's Golf Tournament 2022.

The 32-year-old from County Down had stated that his goal for Sunday's final round was to finish in the top 10 for the seventh time at Augusta National. Still, McIlroy was on the verge of completing one of the most remarkable final-round comebacks since Paul Lawrie's victory at the 1999 Open Championship.

On the final day, McIlroy began the day ten shots behind leader Scheffler, but after birdies on the first and third holes, the Northern Irishman's confidence began to increase.

Three more birdies on the seventh, eighth, and ten holes sent McIlroy into a tie for third place.

McIlroy hit an eagle putt on the par-five 13th hole, putting him at seven-under for the day and to a course record of 63.

He then came back with pars on 14 and 15 and two more pars on the 16th and 17th holes, but the course record was no longer within sight.

However, McIlroy's best moment on the course was still to come. The 32-year-old drilled for a birdie after splashing out of a bunker on the right side of the green.
