News: Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Shooting: Was Anyone Dead?


The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival was called off early on Saturday after a succession of gunshots were heard nearby. At this moment, no injuries have been recorded in the shooting incident.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, shots were fired outside the Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds Saturday night, prompting the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival to close for the night.

The Ponchatoula Police Department has taken over the investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact them directly. The celebrations will resume on Sunday and go until 6 p.m. that evening.

Active Shooter Mugshot & Age Details

The Ponchatoula Police Department has not identified any active shooter involved in the incident, and hence no mugshot is available at the moment. The shooter's age is estimated to be between 25 to 40 years old.

The cause of the shooting is currently under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, but based on their early inquiry, the gunshot occurred outside of the festival grounds.

Sheriff Jimmy Travis of Tangipahoa Parish stated late Saturday that the gunfire was fired outside the festival grounds' boundary.
