Doucet was flown back to Louisiana on March 16, 1984, to stand trial. At around 9:30 p.m., Doucet arrived at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport.
He was brought through the airport in handcuffs by police officers, where Plauché was waiting with a firearm.
Plauché was friends with several high-ranking Baton Rouge Police Department personnel.
Many people assumed that these contacts notified Plauché where and when Doucet would arrive.
However, the information was given to Plauché by an employee of the local ABC affiliate, WBRZ-TV.
WBRZ had set up cameras to catch Doucet's arrival and had a news crew waiting for him. A bank of payphones stood directly across from the broadcast crew.
